Light-Up Night is less than two weeks away in Elizabeth.
While there will be changes due to COVID-19, there will still be festivities in the community. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. and will run until 8:30 p.m. Nov. 19 on Plum Street, according to Elizabeth Area Development Corporation President Larry Ross.
Central to the celebration will be the lighting of the 18-foot Christmas tree on lower Plum Street. It is being delivered and set up Nov. 10 by Martin’s, which is donating the tree.
“Parts of South Second Street will be closed also. That’s where we’re doing the complimentary carriage rides, paid for by the EADC,” Ross said. “We’re giving back to the community.”
There will be two horse-drawn carriages operating in the town for Light-Up Night, providing free rides on a first-come, first-served basis.
For those waiting for their ride or other activities, there will be small fire pits set up in the streets manned by members of the Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Department.
“The Anglican Church will be giving out free hot chocolate,” Ross said.
Starbucks in Pleasant Hills is donating the cups and lids for the hot chocolate, Ross said.
“Some things will change. Last year we had arts and crafts stations, which we had to cancel due to COVID-19,” Ross said.
