Leonard Chemsak – McKeesport
Leonard Chemsak, of McKeesport, passed away on Nov. 5, 2020, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital. He was the son of the late John and Mary Polyak Chemsak, and husband of Helen Protz Chemsak for 45 years. A lifelong resident of McKeesport, he retired as a printer from the McKeesport Daily News. He attended St. Procopius College in Lisle, Ill., and Saint Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh. He was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in McKeesport, where he served as a cantor for over 55 years. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and was stationed in France. Leonard was a pysanky expert and took pride in teaching others at the church. In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Brett) Vezzani. He was preceded in death by brothers, John P. Chemsak, Michael Chemsak and George R. Chemsak; and a sister, Margaret Chemsak Gala. Family and friends will be received at JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. A divine liturgy of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church.
