Students at William Penn Elementary School in the Elizabeth Forward School District will have another day of remote learning today after a third staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
Two employees at the elementary school had positive tests last week, resulting in full remote learning for the students there Friday and Monday. When a third staff member tested positive over the weekend, the decision was made to keep the school closed an additional day.
“Our goal is to have the kids back Wednesday,” said district Superintendent Dr. Todd Keruskin. “We will continue to contact trace to see where it all is coming from.”
Keruskin said the district is working closely with the Allegheny County Health Department for contact tracing and to develop appropriate protocols for the safety of the students and staff. Keruskin said several additional staff members have been quarantined as a precaution and no elementary students have tested positive.
The remaining elementary schools in the district continue to have in-school classes five days a week, while high school and middle school students continue with a hybrid model, attending school two days and having classes virtually the other three. Students are divided alphabetically for the in-person instruction days.
