Donora Council passed a 2021 preliminary budget that holds the line on taxes Thursday night, and it will now be on display in the borough office for the public to review.
Borough Administrator Terri Petroske and council finance Chair Jane Ackerman presented the 2021 preliminary budget during this week’s workshop meeting.
Council members discussed the lack of state money that has previously come in to go toward the police pension fund.
Councilwoman Cindy Brice said last year, because the police pension fund was overfunded, the money was used to fund the non-uniformed employees’ pension fund.
Because the police pension fund remains overfunded, none of the officers is able to contribute to it. That means the state will not send a contribution to it this year, so those funds can’t be used for the other pension.
Mayor Jim McDonough said it seems this council has spent more than any other council getting things for the borough and “the town looks really good and the budget is holding firm. It’s good to see it coming around and not having to raise taxes, having a surplus and not having to raise the garbage rates.”
