Ringgold School District’s new Cyber Academy is growing, and officials are looking to expand the program to include its own teachers in the near future.
Officials revealed a breakdown of the attendance figures for the district’s third-party charter school and its own Cyber Academy at Wednesday’s school board meeting.
According to district officials, there are 123 regular education students and 27 special education students enrolled in the district’s third party charter school at a cost of more than $1 million.
The district’s Cyber Academy, developed over the summer in partnership with Coal Center-based Intermediate Unit 1, has 282 students enrolled at a cost of approximately $400,000.
Students in the Ringgold Cyber Academy are currently taught by certified teachers employed by the IU during its inaugural year.
The Cyber Academy Option differs from the online schooling option in that the Cyber Academy predominantly uses asynchronous learning, which means lessons and activities are pre-recorded and available for students to access at their leisure.
