The Belle Vernon Area School District will begin moving toward full remote instruction starting Monday.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Dowell made the announcement Friday after two new COVID-19 cases were reported at Marion Elementary School.
Dowell said administrators were informed about the positive cases Friday, but did not specify if they were teachers, staff members or students.
“Both cases have caused us to have to contract trace within the building,” Dowell said. “If your child was someone in close contact with one of the positive individuals, you have been notified by the school district. Once again, we are following all the recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.”
Because of the new positive cases, students at Marion Elementary will begin remote learning Monday, followed by the district’s other buildings Dec. 1.
The district anticipates returning to a hybrid learning model for all students Dec. 14, but the situation could be re-evaluated if Westmoreland County remains in a substantial level of community spread.
