The 2020 volleyball season was a tough one for Kennedi Stockey.
A senior at Geibel, Stockey was engaged in a preseason practice with her Gator teammates when her season ended before it even began. Stockey suffered a broken leg and was forced to miss the entire season.
It was a tough blow for Stockey, and a tough blow for the Gators as they struggled throughout the season without one of their top players.
Thankfully for Stockey, her lost senior season on the court won’t be the last time she gets the chance to play the sport she loves. Stockey, a native of Belle Vernon, has committed to Geneva College, where she will further her education and play volleyball for the Golden Tornadoes.
“The campus is gorgeous and the coach (Wendy Smith) showed a lot of interest in me,” Stockey said.
Stockey noted that initially, she was hoping to possibly get the opportunity to play at a Division II school, but playing at Division III Geneva College should suit her well. While at Geneva College, Stockey plans to study early childhood education. Being able to pursue her chosen major was the number one factor in her choice to attend Geneva College. However, volleyball wasn’t far behind.
“Volleyball is a big thing for me because I really want to be able to play after high school,” Stockey said. “I had surgery in September (for my broken leg) and I didn’t get to play my senior season.”
