Vine Street Park in West Newton looks like a scene from a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Though annual holiday festivities were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, community volunteers came together to make it a special holiday season in the borough.
Residents formed West Newton Christmas in Our Hometown and began making plans in August.
One committee volunteer, Marci Elsbury, owner of Mantle House Mission, said it all came together last weekend when miniature-size versions of buildings in the borough lit up the park.
In addition to the mission, other residents built replicas of churches, the library and Santa’s Workshop – to name a few.
There’s also a Nativity, a sleigh with a wooden Rudolph, a hot cocoa stand and a train set-up where families can stop to take photos.
The replicas line the park and will remain lit from 5 to 10 p.m. each evening through Jan. 7 for families to drive-by and enjoy.
Wayne Seanor of Wayne’s Got Wood and Carly Alexandra Seanor, of Carley’s Custom Creations helped with many of the replicas.
“We just wanted to give the community something to enjoy in a safe way for Christmas,” Elsbury said. “It was truly a community effort and turned out so beautiful.”
