Police officer shot; search continues for suspect
By the Mon Valley Independent
A McKeesport police officer was shot multiple times Sunday outside the police station, prompting an immediate search and closure of bridges in and out of the city.
The call came in around 5 p.m. for an officer down outside the building. Police from McKeesport and surrounding areas launched a search for the suspect, who has been identified as Koby Lee Francis.
The suspect had been taken into custody earlier in the day and had a concealed gun that he used to shoot the officer, who was possibly saved by his bulletproof vest.
“When he got out of the car, he had a second gun that we didn’t locate on him and he fired on our officer multiple times, hitting our officer at least two times,” said police Chief Adam Alfer.
The officer, who has not been identified, has been transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh and is in stable condition.
Anyone with information on Francis’ whereabouts is asked to contact police immediately.
