A local auto dealer’s tradition of providing for furry friends in the Mon Valley continued this week.
On Monday, #1 Cochran Toyota in North Huntingdon presented a $25,000 donation to Ina Jean Marton, White Oak’s mayor and the founder of the White Oak Animal Safe Haven.
The no-kill animal shelter, located across from the White Oak Borough Building on Lincoln Way, was among six nonprofit organizations that received donations.
All tolled, #1 Cochran Toyota gave away $86,894 in donations Monday, according to spokeswoman Samantha Elias. Other beneficiaries were Norwin School District Community Foundation, Beverly’s Birthdays, Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Westmoreland Food Bank and Monroeville Public Library.
“We’re proud that in what has been a most difficult year for everyone, we are not only able to still give back to our community, but actually increase the amount of our donations over last year,” said #1 Cochran Toyota general sales manager David Bernardini.
He said the monetary contributions will help all six nonprofits “fulfill their ongoing missions.”
“These organizations are vital to our region, and their services are needed by our neighbors now more than ever,” he said.
When #1 Cochran purchased Bob Massie Toyota, CEO Rob Cochran vowed to carry on the legacy of the dealership’s late former owner, Robert “Bob” Massie Jr., by being a benefactor to the communities that “have made the dealership succeed for decades.”
