Residents from across the Mon Valley will bring in the New Year by jumping into the Monongahela River.
Organizations in Coal Center, Glassport and Belle Vernon will have various plunges in the coming weeks to help raise money for various causes — if residents choose to bear the cold.
The first event, sponsored by the Glassport American Legion, will take place next weekend.
The second annual Polar Bear Plunge will begin noon Jan. 9.
Organizers, volunteers and participants can arrive around 11 a.m. to set up the bonfire to keep warm.
Then, at noon, there will be a prayer before participants jump into the frigid water near Harrison Street.
