Patricia Ann Nussbaumer Shoaf – Holladay, Utah, formerly of Rostraver Township
Patricia Ann Nussbaumer Shoaf of Holladay, Utah, formerly of Rostraver Township, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at Spring Gardens Holladay Assisted Living. Born July 24, 1936, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Francis Nussbaumer and Anna Day Zdji Nussbaumer. Mrs. Shoaf was a 1954 graduate of Rostraver High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education Mathematics from Seton Hill College in Greensburg in 1958. On July 12, 1958, Patricia married her high school sweetheart, Walter Donald Shoaf. After starting a family, she began a longtime career teaching math at Belle Vernon Area High School in 1975 until retiring in 1996. While teaching math, Patricia worked with the students on the “BVA Leopard Tales” and created the applied math program. Patricia was also a prominent leader in the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Monongahela Ward, Pittsburgh Stake and Dublin Ward, Columbus Ohio North Stake, where she served in a multitude of callings, including Stake Young Women’s President of the Pittsburgh Stake. The Shoafs served as missionaries for the church in the family history mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. They volunteered in the family history library, helping patrons research their genealogy. After the mission, they volunteered in both the Monongahela Valley of Pennsylvania and the Dublin Area of Ohio as genealogy consultants. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don and survived by a son, Patrick (Doreen) Shoaf of Charleroi; three daughters, Dr. Kimberley (Alberto Cota) Shoaf of Utah, Ann Louise (Ronald) Weber of Ohio and Cynthia Kay (Thomas) Christensen of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Rochelle Ann Shoaf Young, Michael Patrick Shoaf, Mason Patrice Cota, Kayla Marie Cota, Melissa Ann Weber, Scott Anthony Weber and Josie Lindale Christensen; and a great-granddaughter, Athena Kristine Shoaf. At this time there are no funeral arrangements due to COVID-19. The family will plan and announce a memorial later this year.
