Prior to the three-week shutdown of all WPIAL winter sports, the Frazier boys basketball team was one of a few teams that got to play in a season opener Dec. 11.
To some, it might seem like that one-point loss to Fort Cherry was six months ago, but for Frazier Coach Zach Keefer the game was still fresh in his mind.
“Any time you lose by a point, it can eat at you,” he said. “We did not play our best that night and honestly I still think of that game. It’s just be simmering in our heads.”
Frazier shook off the early rust in the opening eight minutes with a 27-point effort in the second quarter to secure a 76-55 victory over Carmichaels in Section 4-2A action Friday at DiVirgilio Field House in Perryopolis.
The Commodores (1-1, 1-0) had five players in double-figures, led by 21 points and 10 rebounds from Owen Newcomer.
“We got our guards in transition and controlled the pace tonight,” Newcomer said. “It was a great team win and we were ready for this one. One through five (in our lineup), we can put the ball in the hoop and our offense really started to click in that second quarter.”
