Port Authority of Allegheny County has announced that Phase II of the McKeesport Transportation Center construction project will begin Saturday.
To accommodate construction, the Port Authority will close the McKeesport Transportation Center Park and Ride on Lysle Boulevard in downtown McKeesport for about one year.
Alternate free parking is available at the Duquesne Park and Ride (intersection of Library Place and Duquesne Boulevard), the North Versailles Park and Ride (200 Loews Drive) or the Olympia Park and Ride (4313 Walnut St.) in McKeesport.
Bus routes that currently serve the McKeesport Transportation Center will remain on Lysle Boulevard. Riders of the 60-Walnut-Crawford Village, 61C-McKeesport-Homestead and P7-McKeesport Flyer should board inbound buses at the existing stop at Lysle Boulevard opposite McKeesport Transportation Center, and board outbound buses at the existing stop at Lysle Boulevard at the McKeesport Transportation Center, according to Port Authority spokesman Adam Brandolph.
The completed project will have enhanced passenger amenities, including four bus shelters with benches, two ticket vending machines and improved access to the Great Allegheny Passage trail. The number of parking spaces will increase from 66 to 85.
