The Ringgold School District is hoping the third time will be a charm when it comes to selling a well-known parcel of land.
School directors gave district officials the go ahead to announce the sale of two parcels of land at the now-vacant Armstrong Field, also known as the Race Track, located along Route 481 in Monongahela and Carroll Township.
The two lots are being sold together as is, according to a draft of the advertisement released by the district. They are being sold by sealed bids with a reserve minimum of $50,000.
All bids must be received by noon March 5 at the district’s central office in New Eagle.
“The district hasn’t used it forever,” said school board President Bill Stein. “It’s an attempt to get it off our rolls and get the property back in use.”
Stein said the district stopped using the property years ago due to flooding issues from neighboring Pigeon Creek.
“It’s a hard place to maintain,” he said. “It tends to get water-logged. We’ve had to send tow trucks to pull out lawnmowers and tractors out of there because they get so bogged down.”
