Residents who need to speak with police in Elizabeth Borough are being asked to call 911 instead of the station phone number or an officer’s personal cell phone number.
Police Chief William Sombo said it doesn’t matter if the call is for an emergency or not, that’s the system in Allegheny County.
“If it’s coming directly into the police station or personal cell phones, there’s no documentation of it. We have to be able to have some type of record of the actions that were taken,” he said.
Sombo said the Allegheny County police dispatch system is designed to work 100% off of 911, whether it’s a call for a barking dog or for a homicide, or even if someone just wants an officer to call back.
“They want you to use 911,” he said.
