Washington County Commissioners surprised the Monongahela Police Department in December with an $84,304 CARES Act grant.
On Wednesday, commissioners were the ones being surprised when they visited the police department and learned the department had already made plans for the money.
Monongahela police Chief Kevin Harris said $50,000 of the grant will go to the purchase of new police cars, while the remaining money will go to the department’s general fund.
“It’s comforting to know we have not just local, but county-wide, support,” Harris said inside Monongahela’s council chambers during the check presentation.
“We found out in late December about the money and it was definitely a great surprise.”
