The Donora man accused of shooting two people within an hour Jan. 26 appears to have been targeting men who were with his ex-girlfriends.
In charges filed Friday by Donora police, Zackory Sadler, 36, is accused of entering a home where his ex-girlfriend was asleep with another man and shooting the man while the woman fled for her safety.
Less than an hour earlier, at 3:43 p.m., Sadler allegedly shot and killed Darnell Steven Brown, 41, of Washington in the parking lot of Family Dollar on Highland Avenue in Washington.
Sadler has been on the run since the shootings Jan. 26 and is still wanted by police in both jurisdictions. Washington County First Assistant District Attorney Jason Walsh is prosecuting both cases.
Brown was shot in front of his fiance, LeeAnn Group, and her six children, who were in the car waiting for him to return. Sadler is Group’s ex-boyfriend and the father of one of the children.
Sadler allegedly pulled up in a black BMW that was reported stolen and shot Brown from the vehicle before driving away, police said.
According to police, Sadler left the scene at Family Dollar and drove to 620 Heslep Ave. in Donora.
Donora police Officer Neal Rands said Carissa Douglas reported that Sadler was her on-again, off-again boyfriend who had last stayed at her apartment four days earlier.
The affidavit states that Sadler entered the home through an unlocked door and went upstairs, where he found Douglas and Keilone Preston asleep in bed. Douglas woke up to find Sadler standing over them with a gun and she immediately fled the room, the affidavit states.
As she was running down the stairs, Douglas heard a gunshot and she heard another as she reached the bottom of the stairs, the complaint states.
Though she wasn’t wearing any clothing, she ran out the front door to hide from Sadler until she saw him flee the scene in a black vehicle, police said.
As she walked back to her house, she asked a couple walking past to call 911.
The caller, Michael Chechuck, told police he and his wife were walking their dog on Heslep when he saw a man walk up the street and go toward the residence at 620 Heslep Ave.
When they were returning home, Chechuck told police, they heard two gunshots and he called 911 to report what they heard. The affidavit states that Chechuck saw Douglas run from the house while the same man they saw earlier left the residence.
