Seminarian Tom Kadlick of St. Andrew the Apostle is Irish through and through.
On Sunday, parishioners will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an Irish prayer service conducted by Kadlick, who plans to wear a kilt to connect with his heritage as he leads the church through reflections and prayers.
Originally from Boston, Kadlick was assigned as a seminarian to St. Andrew last June and had to come up with creative ways to get to know his community.
“It has been interesting,” he said. “I meet people seven or eight times but only see three quarters of their face. But I do my best to say hello and to talk with people, even though we may not be able to be together or sit down for a meal.”
When the topic of St. Patrick’s Day came up during a recent dinner with other clergy, they turned to him for ideas.
“We were sitting down to dinner and talking about what to do for St. Patrick’s Day,” he said. “Because I am nearly full Irish, they looked at me and Father Jerry said we would get a kilt and figure it out from there.”
