The Charleroi girls soccer program will be looking for its next head coach after Traci Fleming submitted her resignation.
The school board accepted her resignation during Tuesday’s meeting after tabling a motion to accept it during February’s meeting.
Fleming has been the Cougars’ head coach since the 2016-17 season. She was an assistant under former head coach Jim Rue for six seasons and was a member of the program’s first team in 1986.
Over her five seasons, Charleroi has compiled a record of 34-45-1 overall and 32-33-1 against section opponents.
“I appreciated my time at Charleroi,” Fleming said. “When word of my resignation got out, the support from players – past and present – has been overwhelming. Charleroi soccer will always have a special place in my heard and will continue to be some of my fondest memories.”
The cupboard is not bare in Charleroi by any means, as the Cougars will return eight members of what will be a sophomore class led by the team’s leading scorer and forward Bella Carroto, who finished fifth in the WPIAL with 28 goals. Midfielder McKenna “Boots” DeUnger was tied for 14th in the WPIAL with 20 goals and led the Cougars in assists. Both were named all-section after contributing nearly 85% of the Cougars’ offensive output this past season.
Also freshmen on this year’s team were No. 1 goalkeeper Addison Conrad and top defender Taylor Ramsdell.
Charleroi athletic director Brady Barbero said the district will begin the search for a new coach immediately.
