Monessen will receive more than $36,000 in grant funds to help the city address blight effectively.
The grant was approved by the state Department of Community and Economic Development’s Strategic Management Planning Program — formerly known as the Early Intervention Program for financially distressed municipalities.
The STMP provides matching grant funds to assist municipalities to develop comprehensive multi-year financial plans and establish short and longterm financial objectives.
Through that program, Monessen received a grant to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for the city. That work was finalized and adopted in January.
One of three main goals the comprehensive plan intends to address is getting rid of blight in the city to make room for future growth.
