Mark Nemchick and his staff at Elizabeth Forward are glad to just be back on the track and in the field.
The third-year head coach and EF graduate is technically in his second season at the helm after the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out all spring sports in the area last year.
“When we came together at the beginning of this season, it was kind of surreal,” Nemchick said. “Several of my coaches started to talk and we kind of forget all the things we do with these kids, and we were kind of nervous, so we just spent some time talking about what we wanted to get done. It has panned out well so far. We have been pleased with the performance that we have seen in a short period of time. It was a cold day today, but we were able to get outside and practice.”
The Warriors will compete in Section 2-3A with Albert Gallatin, Belle Vernon, Connellsville, Laurel Highlands, Ringgold and Uniontown. Nemchick has about 40 kids combined on the boys and girls’ teams.
EF competed in Class 2A two years ago, and would have last season, but have been moved back up to Class 3A.
