Rostraver Township Commissioners’ President John Lorenzo is pressing the state for more answers regarding Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill.
Lorenzo said he contacted the state department of Labor and Industry last year, and after a two-month wait due to COVID-19 issues, an inspector from L&I’s Boiler Division came from Harrisburg in January to inspect the mobile CNG (compressed natural gas) unit and compressor station at the site.
“Our code officer was out there with them when they were doing their inspection then had a conference call with them in which they indicated there were at least 30 violations,” Lorenzo said.
The violations centered around safety and electrical issues, according to Lorenzo, but he has not received a specific report.
“We’ve been trying to get their findings,” he said. “They said they were going to give them a certain period of time to comply, but they wouldn’t say how long they were giving them.”
Lorenzo plans to submit a Right to Know request next week.
“They were on site. They were there,” he said. “They have not been forthcoming with the information.”
