Rostraver Township commissioners continue to discuss regulations for food trucks.
Proposed ordinances by Denny Puko, who prepared the township’s new comprehensive plan, would allow food trucks in all zoning districts, with hours restricted to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in residential areas. The trucks would also be required to be on private property, not on public roadways.
Puko’s proposal would allow food trucks within 100 feet of a brick-and-mortar restaurant, while the commissioners have been talking about a 600-foot restriction.
Commissioners’ President John Lorenzo said at present there are no regulations on food trucks other than the requirement to obtain a permit, and there haven’t been any problems so far. Commissioner Devin DeRienzo said he still has questions about permitting food trucks in residential areas.
“We’re allowing food trucks to go into residential areas, but no other commercial businesses,” he said. “We haven’t had any complaints right now. I don’t want to take away from anybody’s birthday party or wedding, but I don’t want to set us up for problems.”
