Ligonier Valley pitcher shuts down BVA for third no-hitter
By the Mon Valley Independent
The Belle Vernon Area softball team jumped out of section play and headed to Ligonier for a non-section matchup against the Rams.
Unfortunately for the Leopards, they ran into one of the top pitchers in the WPIAL so far this season.
The Rams’ Maddie Griffin threw her third no-hitter of the season, striking out 16 and walking four, to lead Ligonier Valley (4-0) to the 3-0 nonsection win over the Leopards (3-3).
A lone bright spot for the Leopards was the pitching of freshman Talia Ross.
Ross tossed a complete game, striking out six, and didn’t allow an earned run while scattering four hits.
The Leopards will face another Class 2A team today in nonsection play when they travel to Frazier to face the Commodores at 4:15 p.m.
