A Uniontown woman is in jail after she was allegedly involved in a police chase through Monessen, stole a police car and crashed the vehicle into a tree.
Jamya Dee Ayona Leonard, 19, of Pershing Court is charged with one felony count each of theft by unlawful taking-movable property, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief-damage to property. She is also charged with one misdemeanor count each of recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest stemming from the Monday incident.
Lt. Aaron Thompson wrote in an affidavit that he was notified by a security guard at the Cleveland-Cliffs Coke Works plant of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on Donner Avenue early Sunday morning.
Thompson said when he arrived at the intersection of Schoonmaker Avenue and Parente Boulevard, he spotted the vehicle, a black Mercedes sedan, driving slowly with a flat tire.
Thompson stated that when he attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle turned around on Donner Avenue and continued to drive away.
