The COVID-19 virus may have shut down schools, stopped sports seasons and pulled the plug on concert tours, but it didn’t stop Monongahela’s Faidley House.
The personal care home, located on Fourth Street, has gone through the entire pandemic — or more than a year — without a single case of COVID to any of its 28 residents and 10 employees.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports more than 70,000 cases among nursing homes residents across the state. Almost 15,000 nursing home employees in Pennsylvania have contracted the virus.
In recognition of the Faidley House’s achievement, Gov. Tom Wolf recently sent a signed certificate of recognition to the facility to show his appreciation for the home’s efforts to combat the virus.
“It was a total surprise and it just randomly showed up,” said Rick Faidley, who co-owns the facility with his wife Rose and daughter Judy. “It’s extremely gratifying. It just confirms to us we’re doing the right thing.”
