High school roundup: Truax homer caps Jaguars’ rally over Baldwin
By the Mon Valley Independent
Paige Truax hit a solo home run over the center field fence in the seventh inning Saturday to catapult Thomas Jefferson to a 4-3 non-section triumph over Class 6A Baldwin.
Truax’s late-game heroics were part of a spurt in which the Jaguars (4-3) scored four unanswered runs.
TJ trailed 3-0 heading into the fifth before an RBI single by Savannah Mallozzi put them on the board. Mallozzi was one of three players with multiple hits for the Jaguars, who collected nine hits overall.
TJ tied the game in the sixth with a pair of runs on a sacrifice bunt by Kendal Pielin and an RBI single by Alyssa McCormick.
Claire Whalen was 3 for 4, while McCormick added a 2 for 3 showing for TJ.
McCormick was credited with the win as she allowed three unearned runs on four Baldwin (1-5) hits. She walked two and struck out five.
