Robert ‘Robbie’ J. Nystrom – Clairton
Robert “Robbie” J. Nystrom, 55, of Clairton, passed away at home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Born July 7, 1965, in McKeesport, he is the son of Robert L. Nystrom of Elizabeth Township and Lucille Scalise (Gary Moore) Herndon of Clairton. A member of the former St. Paulinas Church in Wilson, Robbie was a graduate of Thiel College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and psychology and worked at Kaufmann’s, Highmark, and most recently Schumann Center. In his spare time, he was an avid sports fan and athlete, playing baseball for his alma maters, Serra Catholic and Thiel and later in the Daily News League and independent minor league ball in Niagara Falls. Later in life, he umpired and coached for both Clairton and Ringgold Schools and CCAC. He loved his Pittsburgh sports teams, always wearing number 21 in honor of Roberto Clemente. Robbie was also a member of the CFU Lodge No. 248 of Clairton (their baseball and basketball tournaments were his favorite weekends of the year), the WAC in Wilson and the Sons of Columbus, Santa Maria Council in Clairton. He joins his wife, the late Gina Giordano Nystrom, who passed away in 2002. Robbie is survived by his children, Robbie C. (Kasey Seibert) Nystrom of Elizabeth, Nicole (Ruben Morales) Nystrom of Lawrence, N.J., and Angela (Taylor Thomas) Nystrom of West Mifflin; grandchildren, Marley and Delaney; sister, Alexis (Robert “Bobbo”) Trubiani of Donora; niece and goddaughter, Kennedy Trubiani; nephew, Robert Trubiani; stepfather, Kenneth Barna of Clairton; and his puppy, Sage. His grandchildren, nieces, nephew and dog were his world. Friends will be received at A.J. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 555 Fifth St., Clairton, PA 15025, 412-233-5700, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, from 4 p.m. until a 7 p.m. funeral service. In order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, guests are required to wear masks and follow CDC social distancing guidelines. The family would like to express their understanding to those who are unable to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Interment will be private.
