A new concession stand is coming to the baseball fields at Clairton-Resident Park thanks to two area corporate partners, Pennsylvania American Water Company and U.S. Steel.
According to city and Clairton Little League Baseball Association leaders, the stand means more to the community than having a place to go buy a hot dog and snacks.
PA American Mon Valley operations district leaders joined city officials and Jessica Ferraro and Andrew Carr of the little league association to present a $5,000 check being used toward the project, which will result in replacing an old concession stand that has fallen into disrepair.
The company provides water services in the city.
“It’s old, there’s no sewage in it. It floods, so we’re building a new concession stand, which is a little more centrally located to all the fields,” City Manager Howard Bednar said, adding that U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works donated money that was used toward pouring a foundation, which is in place, and the steel company has offered to help build the stand.
“It’ll just be much more modern,” Bednar said. “It’ll have enough electricity that they can light the world. The old one, you had to unplug something to plug something else in. This one will have sewage, water, enough electricity so that whatever they want to have, they can operate.”
