The Rostraver Township Commissioners are expected to vote next week on an agreement with the Washington County District Attorney’s office to install a license plate camera in the township.
Commissioners’ President John Lorenzo said he was contacted by Assistant District Attorney Jason Walsh about installing a camera at a traffic light in Rostraver heading into Donora.
Lorenzo said Washington County would pay the estimated $15,000 for the installation, and Rostraver would cover the maintenance and a fee for the police to access the video. Lorenzo said the cost to the township would be about $1,950 a year.
Lorenzo said Walsh told him similar cameras were vital to the county’s prosecution of a recent homicide case involving the Pagans motorcycle club.
“Maybe Westmoreland County can help us as well and get some cameras in here to help our police department,” Lorenzo said.
Commissioners also discussed a recent Zoom meeting with Smithton officials.
“I think it was a good meeting and progress was made,” Lorenzo said.
