Seton Hill’s Hunter Martin entered the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships as a participant in three different events – the 4×400-meter relay, the long jump and the triple jump.
On day two of the event Friday, he stood atop the podium in Shippensburg.
Martin, a Belle Vernon Area graduate, earned his first PSAC title by winning the long jump with a leap of 7.17 meters. He won by .19 meters.
“I felt really good about my performance,” said Martin, who entered with the top mark at 7.23 meters. “Going into the finals for long jump, I was placed third and I knew I could go farther, as did my coaches. It helped me get more motivated because I knew I could win. It was all up to my last jump to win. When I looked back and saw the distance, I knew I had the furthest jump.”
Winning a PSAC title means a lot to Martin.
It was even more meaningful, however, considering the amount of support he received during the competition.
“Seeing all of my coaches and teammates being there for my competition and seeing me win meant a lot to me,” he said. “(After losing out on last season), that does make it more sweet, too. With over a year of hard work and dedication with all my practices, it feels amazing to see it all finally pay off.”
