As the playoffs inch closer, the Serra Catholic baseball team has become quite goal-oriented.
Of course, the Eagles have aspirations of winning a WPIAL championship. And to get there, Eagles coach Brian Dzurenda has given his team certain targets to reach.
This week, Dzurenda challenged his team to not give up a single run in its final three regular season games.
A 14-0 win against Jeannette on Wednesday inched Serra Catholic closer to that goal. The day before, the Eagles no-hit the Jayhawks in a 10-0 win.
“We have a tough opponent on Thursday obviously in 4A Freeport, but I’m proud of the way we’ve responded so far,” Dzurenda said. “We haven’t made any errors in the last two days and only gave up a couple hits. We did what we expected to do.”
Just two weeks ago, Dzurenda and the Eagles had reached their lowest point of the season, being no-hit by Neshannock in a 3-0 loss, their third loss in four games.
The Eagles have responded well since then, winning four straight games by a combined score of 38-0.
Wednesday’s win was the most lopsided in the winning streak.
