Having lost five straight games following a two-week COVID shutdown, the Elizabeth Forward baseball team was in must-win mode Tuesday.
Not only were the Warriors looking to end their losing streak, but they were attempting to keep their playoff hopes alive against a slumping Belle Vernon Area team.
In a doubleheader that featured games in two different locations, EF accepted the challenge and came away victorious by picking up a pivotal sweep of the Leopards in Section 3-4A play.
The Warriors (7-6, 5-6) won the first game by an 8-7 score at Wylie Field before traveling to the John DiVirgilio Sports Complex and coming away with a 12-0 triumph in five innings.
“Belle Vernon is a very good baseball team and I think every team in our section is good. There is never an easy game,” EF head coach Frank Champ said. “We were just fortunate to get decent pitching and string some hits together. It was great to pull out two big wins.”
