Five additional businesses will soon benefit from the Monongahela Main Street Program’s facade project.
In a 3-0 vote Wednesday, Monongahela council approved renovating the fronts of five buildings in the city.
Greg Garry, Ken Kulak and Rusty Polonoli approved the project and Claudia Williams abstained. Daryl Miller was absent from the meeting.
According to Monongahela Main Street Program Executive Director Terry Necciai, the five businesses are:
• The Anthony Bottino Allstate Insurance building at 440 W. Main St.
• Just For You gift shop at 238 W. Main St.
• The Yohe building at 400 W. Main St.
• The Slagle Roofing and Construction building at 242 W. Main St.
• The New Life Options building at 308 Chess St.
Work to be done on the properties includes painting, installing new doors and facade repairs.
Money for the program comes from a $65,000 grant awarded to the Main Street Program five years ago, which is to be used for the renovations of storefronts built before 1965.
The grant reimburses construction costs of more than $1,500, with the recipient getting one-third of the costs reimbursed, with the reimbursement not to exceed $5,000.
Williams abstained from the vote, saying public money shouldn’t be used to renovate private buildings.
