South Allegheny school directors approved the preliminary 2021-22 school budget Wednesday.
The $27,819,000 budget includes a millage increase of .91 — from 20.26 to 21.17. The average tax increase for a home assessed at $100,000 home would be about $91, said Sheila Lubert, district business manager.
“We have had a rough two years,” she said. “The assessed value in the district went down $1.7 million. It has been a bad year all across the state.”
The budget will be on display at the district administration office for 20 days. It will also be available on the district website, www.southallegheny.org.
The board will meet June 16 for the spending plan’s final adoption.
Officials reported everything is on schedule for the new Gladiator Stadium. The field has been installed and bleachers have been ordered. The next phase is the entrance building.
It will replace Glassport Memorial Stadium, which is in disrepair.
“It is in bad shape. The locker rooms, stands, everything is in bad shape. A few years ago we spent more than $1 million to fix the leaky roof and it still leaks. It was past time to make a move,” said Lou Borrelli, school board vice president and athletics chairperson.
