The Mon Valley’s athletes finished with impressive performances at the Class 3A PIAA Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Shippensburg University.
McKeesport’s Colin Lyons brought home a medal, finishing third overall in the discus. Lyons’ hurl soared 171 feet, 6 inches. Hempfield’s Daniel Norris finished first overall with a throw of 195-10.
In the high jump, Belle Vernon Area’s Dane Anden was one of many in a logjam tied for seventh place.
Anden cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to tie with 13 other competitors.
Ringgold distance runner Ryan Pajak was 11th in the 3,200-meter (2 mile). He crossed the finish line with a time of 9:25.03.
Pajak, the only freshman in the race, ends the season as the top freshman in the state in the two-mile run and has the ninth fastest time in the country for his class.
On the girls’ side, Belle Vernon’s Francesca Scaramucci was 10th in the high jump. Scaramucci was among 10 jumpers to clear the bar at 5 feet.
Of note, Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League girls division first overall draft pick Alyssa Clutter (Trinity) finished seventh in the girls 100-meter dash. Her Hillers teammate Eden Williamson was fourth overall in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches, the highest mark among sophomores.
