An instance of curiosity has turned into 40 years of national competition for Scott Mourier.
Mourier, a native of Monessen who now lives in Charleston, W.Va., earned a silver medal in the USA Volleyball Open Adult (60-over) National Championships played in Louisville, Ky., last week.
Mourier plays volleyball for a club team named Kings Mountain Fog. The team features veteran volleyball players from all across the country. The team has players from California, Wisconsin, Iowa, New York and Arizona and the team’s sponsor lives in Hawaii.
Mourier’s team picked up the silver by finishing second in the BB Division at the national championships. The USA Volleyball event draws hundreds of men’s and women’s teams on various age and skill levels.
Not only did he get a silver, but his play was such that he was named to the USA Volleyball All-Tourney Team.
“We played pretty well for a bunch of guys who get together just once a year for the nationals,” Mourier said. “And making the All-Tourney Team was just awesome. It was humbling for me.”
