Monongahela will be rockin’ this summer thanks to the city’s Noble J. Dick Aquatorium.
The aquatorium recently announced its summer schedule of concerts, and for residents, it couldn’t come at a better time.
Last season’s concert schedule was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aquatorium volunteer and Monongahela Councilwoman Claudia Williams said as pandemic restrictions began to ease earlier this spring, bands contacted the aquatorium to schedule gigs.
“We had a whole schedule lined up last year that we had to trash because we couldn’t do it,” Williams said. “We get hundreds of requests to play here. It’s a beautiful venue and they love playing on the river.
“Most of the bands just want to play music. If they didn’t need the money to get here they’d probably do it for nothing.”
Here is the aquatorium’s “Rockin’ on the Mon” schedule this year:
• Six Gun Sally, July 3. The western Pennsylvania southern and classic rock tribute band will kick off the aquatorium’s concert season during the city’s July 4 celebration weekend. The band has played the aquatorium previously, and will play hits from bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, Molly Hatchet, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and many others.
• Full Moon Fever, July 24. This Canadian Tom Petty tribute band will perform some of the songwriter’s greatest hits, including “American Girl,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Free Fallin’,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and more.
• 7 Bridges, July 31. The Nashville-based Eagles tribute band is in its 14th year of touring and will make a return to the aquatorium. Williams said the band is a crowd favorite.
“The requests for them are endless,” she said.
• Come Together, Aug. 7. The Pittsburgh-based Beatles tribute will return to the aquatorium to close out the concert season. The band plays Beatles classics such as “Eleanor Rigby,” “Help,” “She Loves You,” “Penny Lane” and many others.
Williams said she anticipates large crowds for all the performances.
“People are ready to get out and circulate again,” she said. “We love our supporters and we can’t wait to see them again.”
All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/monaquatorium.
