Ringgold school directors have approved the district’s 2021-22 final budget, which includes a tax increase for district residents.
The balanced budget was adopted at $47,866,588 with a tax hike of 2.5 tenths of a mill, which brings the district’s 2021-2022 millage rate to 14.7705.
One mill is one dollar per $1,000 of assessed value.
A resident with a home assessed at Washington County’s median value of $111,000 will pay an additional $27.83 per year in property tax due to the millage hike.
In May, school officials said the millage increase will generate an additional $696,960 for the district.
A breakdown of the budget shows 67% of expenditures come from salaries and benefits, 22% from supplies and services and 11% from debt service.
Half the district’s revenue comes from state funding, 48% comes from local revenue and 2% from federal money.
Last month, school officials pointed to upcoming contracts, construction projects such as the $5.5 million phase one renovation to the high school’s natatorium and increased Cyber Academy expenditures as reasons for the tax hike.
Board president Bill Stein, Gene Kennedy, Sherrie Garry, Jim Dodd, Carol Flament, Jason Gerard, Larry Mauro and Maureen Ott voted in favor of the budget. Harley Bobnar was absent.
The budget is available to view on the district’s website.
