Charleroi: Community Days returns next week

With life slowly getting back to normal following a tumultuous year, a popular summer event in the Mon Valley will resume this summer.

Community Days in Charleroi will return Independence Day weekend with vendors, entertainment and other activities. Activities will begin at 5 p.m. July 2.

Community Days attracts thousands of people each year to the borough for the two-day celebration.

Last year, because of pandemic restrictions, local leaders made the decision to hold the event virtually with the help of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts President Mark Smith, who organized a weekend of virtual concerts performed in the borough building’s unused third floor.

With restrictions now lifted, borough officials are excited to welcome people back into the community for a weekend of laughs, entertainment, food and one of the largest fireworks displays in the Mon Valley.

Vendors usually line the streets, but this year the entire event will take place in the Chamber parking lot to allow for plenty of room to spread out and have fun.

Some vendors will set up Friday evening in the lot to prepare for Saturday’s day-long festivities that will be packed with entertainment.
