Kara Louise Mollis – Glasgow, Ky., formerly of Charleroi

By obits

Kara Louise Mollis, 45, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, in Glasgow, Ky., in the loving presence of her husband, David Coleman. The daughter of Kevin and Louisa Laskey Mollis, the cherished wife, mother, daughter, sister and auntie was born Aug. 5, 1975, in Charleroi. A fiercely loving mother and wife, she filled her house with love, traditions, laughter and ideas. With her husband, she created a home for her children where the smells of her mother’s recipes filled the air, the music of James Taylor played loudly in her kitchen, the words of activists and literary greats adorned the walls and thoughtful traditions colored her children’s lives. Friends and family loved to sit at her table as the food, conversation and culture were beyond comparison. An exceptional mother, she nurtured her children’s beautiful, unique personalities and learned as much from Sofia and Luca as they did from her. Dr. Mollis was celebrated and accomplished as much in her professional life as she was in her personal life. A full professor of English and dean of the school of arts and humanities at Lindsey Wilson College, she was a beloved colleague and educator. She singlehandedly created the Women’s and Gender Studies major at Lindsey Wilson College, where the president of the college described her as a rising star. Dr. Mollis was also an active and accomplished scholar in 19th and 20th century American literature and women’s and gender studies, frequently publishing and presenting at national and international academic journals and conferences. Kara obtained her master’s and Ph.D. in English at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and earned her undergraduate degree at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pa. Those closest to her lovingly describe her as the smartest person in the room. She was an intellectual, a creator, an influencer, a fighter, a reader, a thinker, a planner, a giver, an advocate and a feisty, generous soul. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, David Coleman; her children, Sofia and Luca; her parents, Kevin Mollis and Louisa Laskey Mollis; her sister, Kourtney Mollis (John Casagranda); brother, Luke Mollis (Jennifer Donato); her nieces and nephews, Nina, Gabriel, Natalia, and Nico; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family will gather privately to remember her.
