A year ago, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full bloom and many people were under a quarantine that caused many businesses to close and long-standing events to be canceled.
One of those events canceled because of the pandemic was the annual Donald Asmonga Foundation Golf Outing.
The event, named after the late legendary Belle Vernon Area basketball and baseball coach, is the chief fundraiser for the foundation, which presents scholarships each year to a BVA senior boy and girl student athlete.

“A few people really stepped up to raise funds for us for the scholarships,” said Nancy Asmonga Colleton, daughter of the foundation’s namesake and chairperson of the foundation’s board of directors. “We had money in the account to give scholarships, but Tom Trilli was adamant that we needed to keep a cushion in our account. So he really spearheaded the efforts to raise money without the golf outing.”
