New Eagle: Council nixes cost for truck repair

New Eagle Council opted on Tuesday to not give the green light to spend nearly $20,000 to repair one of the borough’s broken down dump trucks.
Council members voted unanimously to not allow Davies Ford to replace the 2015 Ford F550’s engine, a repair that would have cost the borough $18,579.70.
Borough officials instead voted to haul the truck, currently sitting inoperable at Davies Ford, back to the borough to have public works employee Jason Miller attempt to locate a suitable used engine at a cheaper cost.
Despite having only approximately 10,000 miles and recently undergoing turbo engine repair — which is covered by a three-year warranty — the truck itself does not have a warranty, according to Miller.
Miller said he’s concerned more repairs could be needed in the future.
“If we can keep the truck and run it for three years, but we’re going to be out of warranty, what’s going to go next?” Miller said. “Is it going to be transmission? A rear end gear? Are we just going to keep dumping money into the vehicle?”
