An early season loss can sometimes do a team good.
In the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League, defending champion AMD Industries saw their long winning streak come to an end, but now its playing its best ball of the season.
Edward Jones crumbled under the pressure as AMD rolled to a 53-35 win in the opening game of Friday’s tripleheader at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center.
AMD Industries (4-1) came out in a full-court press that Edward Jones (2-3) couldn’t handle.
Turnovers turned into easy baskets for AMD, which rolled out to a 14-3 lead.
Mallory Daly started off the game with a 3-pointer as AMD scored the first seven points.
Eden Williamson (Trinity) and Marina Grado (Gateway) scored consecutive baskets before Tasya Troxler-Scott buried a trey to make it 14-3.
Edward Jones got a basket from Carmen Vasquez, but AMD countered with a 14-0 run behind 3-pointers from Grado and Ringgold’s Kirra Gerard.
“I think the loss to Cedarbrook really was a good thing,” AMD head coach Bria Rathway said. “I thought we started out really slow on Wednesday, so I told them I wanted to come out and pressure as soon as we started, right from the jump.”
