For only the second time this summer, AMD Industries played Monday without the services of Trinity’s Eden Williamson, one of the top scorers in the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League’s girls division.
In her absence, two more standouts helped carry the load.
Seton LaSalle sophomore Mallory Daly and Gateway junior Marina Grado combined to score 56 of AMD Industries’ points in a 70-41 victory over Monessen Florist at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center.
Daly scored 18 of her game-high 29 points in the second half and finished with nine rebounds in the win. Grado dominated in the opening 16 minutes for AMD (5-1), netting 23 of her 27 points.
“I think they just play off each other so well,” AMD head coach Bria Rathway said. “Marina is small, aggressive and is everywhere on the court. Meanwhile, Mallory is long, has long arms and can get her hands on and block everything. Having two lefties, they both use their right hands really well, too.
“They complement each other well and they play with the confidence to attack the hoop and get that basket.”
