Thousands of baseball fans from around the globe will descend upon Washington County next month when the county hosts the 69th annual 2021 Dick’s Sporting Goods PONY League World Series Tournament.
The baseball tournament for youths 14 and under will kick off Aug. 12 with its FanFest at the Dick’s store in Washington and conclude with the championship game Aug. 18 at Washington Park’s Lew Hays Field.
At a press conference Tuesday, PONY League officials provided details on the event, which includes the return of many fan favorite attractions as well as some new details added to the five-day schedule.
According to league officials, the tournament attracts upward of 25,000. Thanks to donations of $35,000 each from the Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency and the Washington County Community Foundation, the series will be broadcast on AT&T Sportsnet and livestreamed at MLB.com.
The event brings in more than $4 million to Washington County.
“This shows off our county in a great and wonderful way,” said Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Promotion Agency President Jeff Kotula. “It’s when we welcome the world to Washington County.”
