Civil War re-enactors will encamp at Greenock log house
For the MVI
Civil War re-enactors of the Blue and Gray Brigade will encamp at the Greenock Log House in Elizabeth Township from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Visitors may also tour the Greenock Log House at 1215 Greenock Buena Vista Road, Elizabeth Township, and see the restructured 1790 turkey breast, stone fireplace which has two hearths for cooking and heating.
Dressed as soldiers from the U.S. Army during the American war from 1861-1865, they will drill and perform infantry tactics following the Union Army’s preferred manual written by Silas Casey.
Re-enactor Brook Kovalcik said these historical enthusiasts will demonstrate the nine steps to load a musket as well as portray the daily life of soldiers like using a small skillet tucked in their packs to fry bacon over an open fire.
The small group from Allegheny, Greene and Indiana counties will set up tents.
