An economic playbook is in the works for 27 municipalities in Washington County.
The project, spearheaded by the Mon Valley Alliance, was funded through a 2018 Local Share Account grant.
Washington County Local Share Account money is generated from gaming revenue at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino in North Strabane Township, which is distributed through grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
MVA Director of Operations Jamie Colecchi said the “playbook” will be produced by the MVA on behalf of Allenport, Bentleyville, Carroll, California, Charleroi, Coal Center, Cokeburg, Donora, Dunlevy, Elco, Ellsworth, Fallowfield, Finleyville, Long Branch, Monongahela, New Eagle, North Bethlehem, North Charleroi, Nottingham, Roscoe, Somerset, Speers, Stockdale, Twilight, Union, West Brownsville and West Pike Run.
The playbook will serve as a marketing resource for participating communities.
Colecchi said the project will help communities promote themselves by focusing on their unique offerings to visitors and potential businesses.
Washington County is developing a county-wide comprehensive plan that will help local leaders navigate the years ahead.
This project is separate and will focus on promoting each community.
“We wanted to do something unique for these communities,” Colecchi said. “They all have something unique to offer.”
