Charleroi has once again taken ownership of the community’s boat launch and new parking area.

The site, which was recently redeveloped through a project and partnership with the Mon Valley Alliance, will now be taken care of by the borough.

Located near the former Atlas Building property, which will soon be under development, the site of the launch will become a part of the Magic City Riverfront Park that is currently being developed at the site of the former Cougar Stadium.

Demolition of the stadium in 2018 removed lighting, light pole bases, a wall in front of the property, chain-link fencing, goal posts, netting, a scoreboard, a storage building and railings to prepare the site for future development.

While it took longer than anticipated to find funding for the project, the new riverfront park is the first step by the Alliance toward transforming downtown Charleroi into a recreation-friendly community.
